This is the End...Or Not

By: Turkishny We have to get out. We need to focus on ourselves, put America first; now. These are words we repeatedly hear from our President with regards to many aspects of foreign policies. So what prompted the latest proclamation to put America first? Pulling our troops out of Syria. American troops have been involved in the Syrian Civil War since 2014 and have been taking military action to combat the extremist group, ISIS, since 2017. Up until this post, this blog has focuses solely upon political biases that emerge within our own political climate, but what about how the United States' actions affect other countries' political climates and how those inadvertently affect decisions in the United States? That's essentially what happened when the Trump Administration announced this week that US troops will not be pulled out of Syria yet. Earlier this week, Trump's top advisers convinced the president that pulling out of Syria would not be a wise decision becau...

#Delete Facebook

By: Wikimedia Commons $9 Billion lost in a matter of days. The social network, the app that started it all; connecting people all over the globe. Yes, I am talking about Facebook. The social media source that we as children waited to be able to open, the one that now houses a lot of club and school information within private groups. For years we have seen data and articles warning about the dangers of Facebook, how the social media platform tracks your personal information, how the newfound emojis on the app are simply a psychological monitor to see how you react to different posts. Just the other day, I was looking something up on my laptop for my economics class, and when I decided to aimlessly scroll through Facebook later that night on my phone, all of these ads and articles about economics began showing up on my feed. Okay, not a big deal right? I mean it's simply trying to tailor to my likes and dislikes, only I wasn't logged into Facebook on my laptop, so how did...

I'm Not Paying

By:  State of Freedom We have the power, we have the ability to stand up for what we believe in, we decide where this country goes in the future. Our votes go where we choose, our money goes where we choose, our voice goes where we choose, right? Apparently that isn't necessarily the case. When it comes to public sector unions, whether you are a member or not, you pay the same union fee, known as a fair-share fee. This fee goes to negotiations for future contracts and benefits, things that benefit every public sector employee whether they choose to be a part of the union or not. However, that's now being called into question. Back in September 2017, Mark Janus, a worker in the Department of Healthcare and Family Services, sued the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees for violation of his First Amendment Rights. Janus argued that the Illinois law requiring non-union members to pay fair-share fees violated his rights because of where the funds end ...

In Russia We Trust

By: Jesse Van Mouwerik We've been undermined, we've been hacked, we've been compromised. Who could possibly be responsible for all of this? The Russians of course. Since late 2016 news sources have been ladled with a multitude of articles about Russian hackers meddling with the election and assisting then candidate Donald Trump cinch the election. An investigation was then opened by the FBI to investigate any connections between Russia and the Trump campaign. However, recent news has come to light that it all might have been a sham. Once again politicians trying to further their own agenda clouded the scope of the American people when trying to choose a candidate to vote for. Voting, one of the most coveted rights of the American people that people look forward to when they turn 18. So why do politicians make such a point to undermine their opponents rather than build up their own moral character? After all at this point none of them have a shroud of morality left. ...

At What Cost?

By: The Daily Sheeple Without funding, we can't function. Without a plan, we shut down. When working on the latest appropriations bill - a bill with regards to spending - Congress had the tight deadline of Friday at midnight to get the passed bill to the desk of the President in order to avoid a Government shutdown. Unfortunately in this case, Congress was unable to pass the necessary spending bill prior to the deadline and thus, the government shutdown that lasted the weekend. So, who is to blame for the the shutdown? Well, depending on who you ask, there are people on both sides of the line to blame. However, either way, what ever happened to putting the American people first? Doesn't the Constitution state of the people, by the people, for the people? So when did every government decision become about furthering party agendas and ensuring reelection? Both parties knew that with the nearing deadline to pass the new spending bill, it served as the perfect opportunity ...
